P. Madhuri, born Shivagnanam in Trichinopoly, Tamil Nadu, is a renowned South Indian playback singer recognized for her significant contributions to the Malayalam film industry. She began her career in music at a young age, marrying V. Jayaram at 13 and becoming a mother by 16. Her talent was discovered by the famous Malayalam music director G. Devarajan, who introduced her to the film industry through the 1969 movie Kadalppalam, where she sang the popular Mappila song "Kasthuri Thailamittu Mudi Minukki." Over the years, she became one of the most successful playback singers in Malayalam cinema, primarily known for her high-pitched singing style.
Throughout her career, P. Madhuri has recorded over 552 songs in Malayalam, making her one of the most prolific female playback singers of her time. She has worked with various music directors, particularly G. Devarajan, and has received two Kerala State Film Awards for Best Playback Singer.
