S. Ramesan Nair was a prominent Indian lyricist and poet, primarily known for his contributions to the Malayalam film industry. Born on May 3, 1948, in Kumarapuram, Kanyakumari district, Tamil Nadu, he became a significant figure in Malayalam literature and music until his passing on June 18, 2021.

Early Life and Education
Nair was born to Shadananan Thampi and Parvathi Amma. He displayed a passion for poetry from a young age, which led him to forgo medical studies after completing his bachelor's degree in economics in 1966. He later earned a post-graduate degree in Malayalam Literature in 1972. His career began as a sub-editor at the Kerala Bhasha Institute and included a role as a producer at All India Radio, where he created notable radio dramas.

Career Highlights
Nair's career as a lyricist commenced with the film Pathamudayam in 1985. Over the next several decades, he wrote songs for more than 170 films and composed over 3,000 devotional songs. His collaborations included work with renowned composers such as M. G. Radhakrishnan, Ouseppachan, and Raveendran. Some of his notable films include Aniyathipraavu, Kuruppinte Kanakku Pustakom, and Raakuyilin Raagasadassil. His songs like "Aavaniponnunjal," "Mayilay Parannuva," and "Onnanam Kunninmel" have become classics in Malayalam cinema124.

In addition to film lyrics, Nair was also recognized for his poetry collections, most notably Guru Pournami, which earned him the Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award in 201834. He was celebrated for his ability to blend various genres within his work, making significant contributions to both devotional music and classical literature translations.

Nair passed away due to complications from COVID-19 at the age of 73, after battling cancer24. His death was widely mourned within the literary and artistic communities of Kerala.

Nair's legacy continues through his extensive body of work that has left a lasting impact on Malayalam literature and cinema.
