Madhu Alappuzha

An Alappuzha native, Madhu made his mark in the Malayalam film song-writing scene with several hits. After college, he was drawn to rationalist ideas and collaborated with A.T. Kovoor while writing poetry for magazines. Kovoor introduced him to M.O. Joseph of Manjilas. His first song was “Anuragam Anuragam...” for the 1976 film Missi, with music by Devarajan. However, his first major hit was "Poovinnullil Poo Viriyum Pookalam Vannu" from the film Tharattu (1981), composed by Ravindran. Madhu also wrote many other popular songs for Malayalam cinema.
